Jeju Island
Over the past decade, Jeju Island has received three different UNESCO certifications; it was designated a Biosphere Reserve in 2002, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, and a Global Geopark in 2010. The island is now one of the ‘New7Wonders of Nature’.

  Upcoming Festival  
  Pyeongchang Trout Festival

Date: December 22nd, 2011 – February 5th, 2012
Location: Gangwon-do Pyeongchang-gun (Odaecheon Stream area)

The Pyeongchang Trout Festival takes place during winter in the town of Jinbu-myeon in Pyeongchang-gun district. Visitors to the festival can enjoy a variety of programs including ice and lure fishing for trout, snow programs, ice programs, folk programs, and more.

  ‘Fun, Ski & Snow Festival’ & ‘GoGo Ski Festival’

Date: December 15th, 2011 – March 4th, 2012
Location: Gangwon-do Pyeongchang-gun (YongPyong Ski Resort

The main programs are skiing and snowboarding with lessons from professional instructors as well as an amateur ski and snowboard competition. In addition, the Festivals will be presenting various performances and hands-on experience programs involving hanbok (traditional clothes) and Hallyu Star Photo Zone

  Food
  Kimchi and Kkakdugi (Fermented Cabbage and Radish)

Kimchi is fermented cabbage and Kkakdugi is fermented radish. They are just two of many fermented side dishes in Korean food where people include them in their meals three times a day. Normally, fermented side dishes are made late fall and early winter so that the fermentation can last all throughout the winter and so that families don’t run out of things to eat during the cold.
